Hearing Test
Johnson’s Hearing Centers provides comprehensive hearing tests in Inverness and the surrounding community. We work with adults of all ages and all types of hearing loss, and we’re here to help you get back to better hearing.
It all starts with a hearing test. A comprehensive hearing test will help us detect hearing loss, determine the kind of hearing loss you have, and find out what frequencies you struggle to hear. With this information, we can recommend the best treatment options that perfectly match your hearing needs.

Types of Hearing Tests
A hearing evaluation includes several types of hearing tests. These tests give us a clear picture of your hearing loss and hearing needs. Hearing tests are non-invasive and very easy, and we’ll walk you through each step of the process.
Pure-tone Audiometry
This hearing test involves listening to tones at different frequencies and volumes to determine the softest sounds you can hear across the hearing range. The results of this test help identify the specific frequencies that you have trouble hearing. The test guides us in making a personalized treatment plan.
Speech Recognition Testing
This test assesses your ability to hear and understand speech in varying listening conditions and helps determine speech clarity. We’ll ask you to repeat a word or phrase, and we’ll adjust background noise to find out more about your speech understanding in noise. This provides the information we need to create a treatment strategy focused on improving speech understanding.
Tympanometry
This test evaluates the movement of the eardrum and the function of the middle ear by changing air pressure in the ear canal. It provides valuable information about the condition of the middle ear and can help identify issues such as fluid buildup or eardrum abnormalities.
Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE)
OAE testing measures the sounds emitted by the inner ear in response to external stimuli, providing information about the health of the hair cells in the cochlea. This non-invasive test can help identify the integrity of the cochlear structures involved in processing sound.
Bone Conduction Testing
This test assesses the inner ear's responses to sound by bypassing the outer and middle ear and stimulating the cochlea directly. It can help determine if hearing loss is originating from the outer/middle ear or the inner ear, aiding in the diagnostic process.
