What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Ready for your first hearing test? Here’s what you can expect:
When you arrive, our front office team will greet you and make sure you feel right at home. We’ll ask you to complete some paperwork to help us understand more about your hearing loss and hearing needs.

Greeting

At the start of your appointment, your hearing health specialist will ask you some questions about your medical history and any concerns you have about your hearing.

Medical History

We’ll examine the outside of your ears and your ear canal using an otoscope. This is the best way to check for any blockages, earwax buildup, or signs of infection.

Physical Exam

This is the most common test and involves wearing headphones or earplugs while sitting in a soundproof booth. You will be asked to indicate when you hear sounds at different frequencies and volumes.

Pure-tone Audiometry

You will listen to and repeat a series of words at various volumes to assess your ability to understand speech.

Speech Audiometry

Once the tests are completed, we’ll review the results with you and answer any questions you may have.

Results

Based on your test results, we’ll talk about potential next steps, which may include further evaluations, hearing aid recommendations, or other interventions if needed.
